Why Should I Vote?

Were you expecting a Red Wave on November 8th of this year? I kept hearing that phrase – Red Wave – before the election. Then after the election, someone said we had a Red Ripple, not a Red Wave.

My expectations were not so high. I was hopeful, but not expectant. I’ve had trouble believing in elections ever since the 2020 presidential election was so obviously stolen. And I doubt seriously that the presidential race was the only one decided by fraud in that election.

I have, in fact, been a little bit depressed ever since it became clear that the fraudulent results of that election were going to stand. If trusted powers in the United States could not provide an honest election with one of the most amazing presidents in the history of presidents in the White House, what hope did we have that there would ever be another honest election in this country?

Reflecting on the Past

Look around you today at the United States of America. What if someone had told George Washington that a day would come in this country when pre-born babies would be slaughtered in the womb? And it would be done legally!

Frankly, I don’t believe he would have believed it.

What if someone had told Abraham Lincoln that unmarried couples living together would be both common and generally accepted in the country he loved? That unnumbered multitudes of pastors and church elders would one day secretly consume vile pornography in the privacy of their homes? That homosexual marriages would actually be legalized in the United States?

He would have disbelieved it or else it would have broken his heart!

A Solid Foundation

Here’s my point. These shameful behaviors didn’t hatch overnight. The United States was founded on powerful, honorable principles. Honest, moral leadership was the rule, not the exception, for nearly 200 years.

Obviously, neither the young country nor its leaders were perfect. Perhaps, the nation’s most glaring sin was that it tolerated slavery for nearly 100 years. And treatment of Native Americans was scandalous. So, I’m not naively claiming purity and innocence for the early days of the U.S.

However, for many, many years citizens and politicians alike recognized the wisdom of serving God and being guided by Biblical principles. There was a general understanding in society that, as a nation, we honored God, believed the Bible, loved our neighbors and worked, not only for our own success, but also for the welfare of our country.

Shifting Standards

Somewhere back in the mists of time, black-hearted souls began running for office in the United States. (And infiltrating schools, colleges, the media, etc.) They probably claimed to be the “enlightened,” “unfettered,” “free-thinking,” “broad-minded,” etc. candidates. Obviously, they managed to spin their corrupt objectives with sparkling words that beguiled many voters.

Do you think such nominees won immediately? Do you think they generated a statewide or national following with their first run for office?

I don’t. I believe the rabid liberals who compose much of the regime in Washington, D.C., today are players in a long line of determined candidates. Their predecessors undoubtedly lost hundreds of races. But they refused to give up. No matter how poorly they did, they kept running. And eventually, they began winning.

Now, radical liberalism in the United States has festered into a monster. This monster apparently owns the mainstream media. It has the power to manipulate elections. And it is waging war on the U.S. Constitution, especially, the first and second amendments.

Why shouldn’t a person just give up in the face of such powerful opposition? And if dark, globalist powers are controlling elections, why should I bother to vote?

“Never give in, never, never, never, never…”

Hmmm, wonder why I suddenly thought of Winston Churchill…

I can tell you why. We (American Conservatives) have to be of the same mindset that England’s prime minister created among his people during World War II. Hitler seemed unstoppable. German bombers had turned buildings to rubble and killed nearly 1500 civilians in the 1940-41 “blitz.” Beloved British youth were fighting and dying in foreign trenches and in the skies over Europe. The future looked gloomy and frightening.

This was Churchill’s response: “never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty — never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.” (Speech at Harrow School, October 29, 1941)

Our Modern Monster

We’re not at war with a maniac like Hitler. No, our opponent is more nebulous and skulking, yet able to wield a power that sometimes feels overwhelming. But take note – our enemy gained vast power by never giving up.

And we must learn a lesson from our opponents. Or from Winston Churchill. Or from our God. We must decide to persevere no matter what. Even if the current political regime tries to obliterate the first amendment and silence us. Even if they cancel the second amendment and come for our guns. No matter what they do we must keep voting. We must keep fighting. We must never give up.

To quote Winston Churchill again, “We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender…” (House of Commons – June 4, 1940)

A Harbinger?

I have now said what I intended to say when I started this blog. I wanted to say, “No matter how black the night; no matter how dismal the day; we must never give up.”

But this week as I was thinking about and writing the blog, I decided to listen to The Harbinger,* by Jonathan Cahn again. (For the 3rd time.) And as I listened, a question occurred to me. What if the disastrous 2020 election was a harbinger for U.S. Conservatives? What if it was a warning from God that we were at a crossroads, and had an important decision to make?

In The Harbinger, Cahn explains that the destruction of the World Trade Center and the damage to the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, were a signal from God to the United States as a whole. After that horrible event, we had a choice to make. And we made the wrong choice.

God was calling this country to repent and return to Him. God was calling this country to humility.

Instead, we chose defiance. Our leaders proudly proclaimed that we would not be defeated. We would not be shamed. We would not be humbled. We would rebuild. And we would build back better. Higher. Stronger.

It was a foolish position. When times and conditions demand humility, pride and defiance can only lead to destruction.

How Will You Vote?

This week the announcement finally came that Republicans had won a majority in the House of Representatives in the November 8 election. And President Trump disclosed his decision to run for the presidency again.

Hmmm, are things looking up for U.S. Conservatives?

Maybe. But remember it was a Red Ripple, not a Wave. Whether the Ripple will grow into a Wave or die an ignominious death depends on God’s people.

If we smile, wave at II Chronicles 7:14, and say, “Yeah, boy, I agree with that!” then go on about business as usual, we just voted Blue.

But if, like the tax collector in Jesus’ parable (Luke 18:9-14), we beat our chests in self-disgust and beg, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner,” then make appropriate changes in our lives...

If we humble ourselves and pray, seek God’s face, and turn from our wicked ways...

If we start filling the churches on Sundays instead of the football stadiums and the golf courses and the local recreation areas...

Then God will see that we have chosen Him, that we have voted for Him. And He will vote for us.

We vote every day. By the way we live, we vote for God or against Him.

How about you? How do you vote?
