Such a Time as This

Last October, I read one of the most powerful and encouraging posts I’ve ever seen on Facebook. In a few compelling lines, Alex Cravens advised that we shouldn’t worry about our children and grandchildren who are having to grow up in this messed up world.

Why not? Because God is sovereign, and He knows what He’s doing. “He knows”, Cravens wrote, “that your child can handle whatever challenge they face in their life. He created them specifically for it!”

The piece ended with these simple, yet powerful lines: “Don’t let your fear steal the greatness God placed in them. I know it’s hard to imagine them as anything besides our sweet little babies, and we just want to protect them from anything that could ever be hard on them, but they were born for such a time as this.” *

Frightening Times

I’m sure you recognize the idea of being born “for such a time as this.” It is from Esther 4:14 in the Bible. Esther, the queen of Persia, was Jewish, and her people had been singled out for extinction by Haman, an evil executive in the king’s cabinet.

Esther’s Uncle Mordecai sent her a terrifying message. She was queen; it was her responsibility to save the Jews. What in the world was Esther supposed to do!? She replied that she dared not even approach her husband, the king. If she went to him when he hadn’t sent for her, he might have her killed. And the king had not summoned her in a month.

Mordecai’s response to his niece closed with those immortal words that apply to every human being who has ever lived: Who knows whether you have come to your position “for such a time as this?”

Our Times

Do you ever look around at our violent, disease-ridden world and wish you had been born in a different time? I’ve always been excited at the thought that I might be alive for the Rapture of the church. What could be better than to be “beamed up” to Heaven without having to die?

What I didn’t consider was that at the time of the Rapture, history will be closing in on the Great Tribulation described in the book of Revelation. Granted, the Rapture will save a generation of believers from those gruesome tribulation days, but those believers will be here for the build up – the prelude to – the worst time in the history of the world. In fact, I suspect that’s where we are now, racing toward the end of time at a breathtaking speed.

Anybody want to bury your head in the sand and hope things get better?

Our Choice

Unfortunately, nothing good is going to happen if good people bury their heads in the sand. No, we have to make a better choice. We have to recognize that the Lord God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, our Sovereign King, chose that we should live now, in these troubled times. We need to assess ourselves, assess our world, seek God, and discover why we are here at “such a time as this.”

For example, let me tell you one of the things that disturbs me most in these perilous times – the attack by our government on the Constitution. Consider these things:

• For example, let me tell you one of the things that disturbs me most in these perilous times – the attack by our government on the Constitution. Consider these things:

• The government can decree that if you don’t agree with them, you have committed a hate crime. Now, you’re a criminal, and the First Amendment is out the window.

• Propaganda against the Second Amendment is constant.

• Government officials commit criminal or treasonous acts, and everyone just yawns.

• Is there anything in the Constitution about running up so much debt, the country will never recover?

• And what about our government – charged with the responsibility of defending its citizens – opening its borders and welcoming any terrorist or criminal that comes along?

Taking a Stand

The United States has many problems. We could name numerous issues that deserve our attention. But one of the most critical is the need for honest elections. Consider this, if our current government fails to retain power, they will (hopefully) be held responsible for their actions. What are the chances that they haven’t already decided how they’re going to hijack future elections?

If you have any authority, any insight, any ability to affect elections in our land, perhaps you were born for such a time as this. We all need to do whatever we can to assure honest elections. If we are unable to put strong, honorable men and women into positions of leadership SOON, there is a powerful shadow government, committed to globalism, that is going to drag the United States of American down the drain into the sewer.

Most of all, we must pray for our country and for honest elections.

Independence Day

Independence is a worthy and noble ambition. The early Americans who had to fight a war with Britain in order to achieve this exalted prize also lived in difficult times. But they stepped up. They sacrificed. They accepted their appointment to “such a time as this.” And they won independence for their descendants.

Throughout the succeeding 247 years, Americans have gladly received and enjoyed the freedom that is our heritage. But freedom is never free. This Independence Day, July 4, 2023, everyone of us needs to observe and evaluate and then, to paraphrase President John F. Kennedy, we must ask ourselves what we can do for our country.

Have a safe, joyful Fourth of July!

And may God save America, the land that we love so dearly.
