The Drones Are Coming! The Drones Are Coming!

On the January 3, 2025, edition of “Understanding the Times,” – find the link below – Billy Crone, senior pastor of Sunrise Bible Church in Las Vegas, discussed the recent unidentified drone flights that have been baffling Americans. These swarms of drones, which seem to appear from nowhere, have flown over military installations, as well as other sensitive areas, raising suspicions that they are espionage aircraft owned by foreign enemies of the U.S.

In a brief clip of President Trump answering questions from the media, the president-elect expressed his opinion that the government knows about the drones. And the military knows where they come from and where they go, he said. Pastor Crone agrees with Mr. Trump’s assessment.

One Possible Explanation

The pastor has a theory about the purpose of the swarming drones. He believes the drones are another power grab by the current regime in Washington. If the government can create enough fear, their constituents might accept draconian legislation, even demand it. “Basically, create a crisis, you control the outcome,” he said.

Pastor Crone read a phrase from proposed legislation, listing some of the powers it would give government if passed. They could “…destroy, disable aircraft in flight, intercept signals and communications…” He pointed out that the power to intercept signals and communications in this proposed law does not specify drones. In other words, the authorities could use the legislation to legally intercept signals from your cell phone, your laptop, or anywhere else.

And did you know that “drone technology” includes drones that look like sharks, birds, insects, etc. The annoying fly that won’t go away may not be a fly. It may be a tiny, flying spy. What about the shark that’s keeping bathers out of the water? It might be a drone – I guess that would make it a swimming drone.

Sparking a Memory

As I was listening to the program, I kept thinking, “The drones are coming! The drones are coming!” The phrase didn’t leap to mind because of Paul Revere’s ride to warn of a British invasion. Instead, I was thinking about the movie, “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming!”

Since I saw the movie more than 50 years ago, I found it online (free on Pluto TV) and watched it again. In the story, a Russian submarine gets grounded on a sandbar near a New England island for the simple reason that the crew wants to catch a glimpse of America. Unfortunately, they’ve gotten too close.

The movie was made in 1966, right in the middle of the cold war. Of course, the Russians are nervous. The commander of the sub sends a nine-man landing party to find a boat that might be able to tow the submarine off the sandbar.

It isn’t long before those nine, gun-toting, uniformed men have inspired a panic. Every gun on the island is called into service. Of course, the story is hilarious: nine peaceful but scared Russians trying to un-ground their submarine so they can leave vs. a crowd of inept, armed, hysterical islanders more-or-less unified in defense of their country.

Using Our Heads

Perhaps, the drones recently thronging our skies are as innocent as those Russians. If so, then one has to wonder whether Pastor Crone’s theory might be correct. Someone must be behind the drones. And that someone has a reason for creating fear and suspicion. We should all be wondering “who?” and “why?”

Obviously, I don’t know whether the drones are innocent or not. But my hope is that we Americans learned something from the COVID crisis. We’re fools if we stand stupidly by and let our already-huge government increase in size, add fangs, and lie to us about its intentions.

Our legislators probably aren’t idiots (most of them.) They can come up with legislation that is protective without being oppressive. And if they can’t, we need to get rid of them and vote in political leaders who can.

I wonder if I should have titled this blog, “Big Brother Is Coming! Big Brother Is Coming!”

Of course, this blog merely gives you the flavor of the “Understanding the Times” program, which is titled “Game of Drones.” You will learn more if you watch it or listen to it yourself. (FYI, the first part of the program is about Todd Hampson’s new book about Heaven. The drone section begins at about 28:15 on the Rumble video, but both parts are worth watching.) Here’s the link: “Game of Drones.”
