Recently, a friend mentioned to me that Jonathan Cahn had a new book out. After she told me a little bit about it, I went home and purchased it from audible.com.
The name of the book is The Return of the Gods.
If your lunch bunch holds endless discussions wondering…
If you lie awake at night wondering…
If your heart all but fails you wondering…
...what happened to the United States?
Jonathan Cahn may have your answer. I believe he does.
Being an author myself, I want to be careful not to include any spoilers in this blog. At the same time, I am excited to give you an insight into the mechanism of destruction Mr. Cahn describes in The Return of the Gods.
The House of Spirits*
In Matthew 12:43-45 and Luke 11:24-26, Jesus revealed to His disciples that a man can be possessed by an evil spirit. But if the man is set free from that unwelcome “guest” and gets his house – himself – cleaned up, the demonic spirit may return later to scout out the situation. If it finds the house empty, it will take that void as an opportunity. It will go find seven pals (all more wicked than itself) and move back in. Obviously, the man will then be worse off than he was in the beginning with eight evil tenants, instead of only one.
But wait! Here’s the kicker. In the passage in Matthew, Jesus ended the story, referring to the possessed man’s tragic condition: “Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”
In other words, Cahn explains, this situation can apply to a group of people, as well as to a single individual. For example, a group of people like the United States of America. Or any other nation on our planet.
Spiritual Warfare
During Old Testament times, the Israelites’ allegiance see-sawed back and forth between Creator God – Yahweh – and the pagan idols of surrounding nations. But when Yahweh came to Earth as the man Jesus, His death and resurrection established His ascendancy over every evil spirit plaguing humankind.
The powers of darkness did not take their defeat gracefully. Early Christians were prosecuted, persecuted, and executed. They had no military power and no earthly defense against hostile governments. Yet the Church endured. It grew. And it overcame.
Whereas pagan gods had once flourished, they began to lose ground. Eventually, Western civilization abandoned them and chose to worship the true God, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. The evil spiritual forces were all but forgotten.
In Europe and America, most people “cleaned house.”
Clean, But Empty
But do you remember Jesus’ parable? Spirits don’t die. And the vile forces of darkness are still with us. They have been biding their time, stalking their prey – waiting for empty houses and open doors.
Over the past hundred years, slowly at first, churches began to lose membership. Bibles gathered dust. And God was forced out of schools, governments, and businesses.
The house was clean, but the spirit of the true God had been evicted. Evil spirits slithered in. Finding no opposition, they gathered strength. And all around us, in the United States, as well as many European countries, they are consolidating their power.
The Dark Trinity*
In The Return of the Gods, Jonathan Cahn details how three of the powerful gods that tripped up Israel in Old Testament days are creating chaos in the United States today. He calls them the “Dark Trinity.” In their heyday they represented themselves as a bull, a lion, and a dragon. I won’t name them, but if you should read the book, you’ll recognize their names from the pages of the Old Testament. And you’ll really understand…
...what happened to the United States.
The slavish pursuit of money, rampant sexual perversion, and the slaughter of pre-born babies are only some of the travesties that are spiritually energized by the Dark Trinity. If you’ve listened to news reports and couldn’t understand how our fellow citizens could be so foolish and/or corrupt and/or backward, now you know. Vast numbers of people are being motivated, misled, and compelled by pagan spirits, the wannabe gods of the Old Testament who have made a dramatic comeback.
I think we all have been generally aware of this fact. But it was enlightening to me to read the details in The Return of the Gods. Cahn details the similarities between the idols of old and their modern resurgence. He analyzes the precarious position of Western civilization today. And he closes with an encouraging message.
The Takeaway
So what am I saying? That you should read this book? Yes, I believe you will find it eye-opening, exciting, and informative. But, most of all, if you have children, grandchildren, neighbor children, etc. you need to be aware that they are targets. By reading The Return of the Gods, you may pick up some new insights about how to protect children and how to prepare them to defend themselves against the wannabe gods who are stalking our nation and our planet.
And we all know it, but I’ll say it again. We (meaning God’s people specifically) must humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from our wicked ways. (II Chronicles 7:14) Otherwise, we cannot expect God to help us. And if God doesn’t help us, our beautiful country is doomed.
