Todd Hampson’s Non-Prophet’s Guide (TM) series consists of books that illuminate and clarify the topic of Bible prophecy. In order to demonstrate the simplicity of the topics, the author has created the Non-Prophet, a cartoonish character with a poor understanding of the Bible. Apparently, the reason for his existence is to convey this message: Here is a discussion of prophecy so simple even this doofus can get it!
This series stands out as an exceptional resource for those seeking a deeper understanding of Biblical prophecy and eschatology. Hampson’s writing style is accessible, engaging, and interspersed with a multitude of illustrations. He breathes new life into complex topics, capturing readers’ attention while imparting profound insights.
Artwork That Charms
I have to admit, it was the artwork that first grabbed my attention. Hampson’s character, the Non-Prophet, wanders through the pages of his books with silly statements and earnest errors. This bearded nut with his flyaway hair, sackcloth robe, and sandwich board sign will make you feel like an intellectual in comparison. But give him his due – he’s sincere. And he’s in there pitching, always willing to expose his ignorance, in order to help us learn. You don’t want to miss the Non-Prophet!
But it’s not just the Non-Prophet cartoons that make Hampson’s artwork exceptional. He includes drawings and charts that remind me of that old saying, “One picture is worth a thousand words.” For example, I will never forget a drawing on page 22 of The Non-Prophet’s Guide (TM)to the End Times. The drawing is provided to demonstrate God’s view of time in contrast to an Earthling’s view of time. When I read that passage and saw that drawing, I thought, “Eureka, now I get it!”
You won’t find enlightening, informative drawings, charts, and boxed text on every single page of Hampson’s books. But you will find one or more illustrations on most pages.
Here’s a quick insight into the books in the series that I’ve read so far:
The Non-Prophet’s Guide (TM) to the End Times: The first book in the series tackles one of humanity’s most intriguing questions – what does the future hold? Hampson explores Biblical prophecies concerning end times events such as the rapture, tribulation period, millennium, second coming of Christ, and more. Through clear explanations and engaging visuals, he offers insights that emphasize hope and preparedness while highlighting the importance of maintaining faith in uncertain times.
The Non-Prophet’s Guide (TM) to the Book of Revelation: In the second installment of this enlightening series, Todd Hampson presents a comprehensive guide to one of the most enigmatic books in the Bible – Revelation. With clarity and depth, Hampson unravels the prophetic imagery, symbolism, and themes found within its pages. Through engaging illustrations and relatable explanations, readers gain understanding of one of the Bible’s most intriguing texts.
The Non-Prophet’s Guide (TM) to Spiritual Warfare: In this empowering sequel, Hampson traces the reality of spiritual warfare from Genesis to Revelation. He delves into the spiritual battles believers face in their daily lives. Drawing from Biblical examples and instruction, he prepares readers with practical knowledge and tools. For example, he spends a full chapter on each piece of your armor – your helmet, your breastplate, your belt, your shoes, your shield, your sword. And your secret weapon: prayer. This Guide will equip you with wisdom and strategies to navigate spiritual battles with confidence and faith.
The Non-Prophet’s Guide (TM) to the Bible. I haven’t read this one yet.
The Non-Prophet’s Guide (TM) to the Book of Daniel. The 12 chapters in the book of Daniel are divided into two broad categories. Chapters 1-6 focus on history and chapters 7-12 focus on prophecy. Some of the history is familiar even to Sunday School children – the three Jewish youths who were cast into a fiery furnace and Daniel in the lion’s den. But the prophecies in the book of Daniel are even more breath-taking than the history for they reveal future history. The Non-Prophet’s Guide to the Book of Daniel is Todd Hampson’s call to modern Christians to see the faith and courage of Daniel and his three colleagues, then have the strength of character to be as strong as they were. The Jews exiled to Babylon faced many difficulties. But we face our own difficulties. And today we have the opportunity to boldly serve God instead of bowing to the idols of this age.
If you’re not already familiar with Todd Hampson’s books, I believe it’s safe to say you will find them enlightening and exciting. Hampson is a gifted artist and writer with a brilliant ability to simplify and clarify complex topics. His Non-Prophet’s series will help you navigate our world with wisdom, hope, and a firm foundation in Biblical truth.
