A Parable of Kings: Coping with Evil Leaders

Once upon a time in a beautiful country named Parkland, a wise and gentle king ruled. Everything about the king was majestic and glorious, yet he was the epitome of humility and kindness. His subjects adored him and bragged about him so much that a few thugs in the kingdom grew jealous.

“What’s so hot about the king?” they asked each other.

“Somebody should take him down a peg or two,” another suggested.

“A peg or two?” someone scoffed. “Why not replace him?”

Those bullies studied each other. That was a crazy idea – wasn’t it? Could they rule the country? Which of them was the most promising king material?

It didn’t take long for all their gazes to focus on Bozo – the biggest, baddest, hairiest member of their band. Bozo was also the strongest and meanest among them.

“Long live King Bozo!” someone shouted. “Long live King Bozo!” another yelled. The others took up the chant.

And then, the plotting began.

Fait Accompli

Let’s just say that bunch of dunderheads pulled it off – not because they were wise or savvy. They managed it because they were savage and relentless. Of course, they claimed to be the kindest, caring-est of characters. But their actions betrayed them.

Unfortunately, anyone who reported on their actions and true character vanished. And when it was the king who vanished, the nation collapsed in grief. The broken-hearted citizens barely noticed King Bozo’s ascension to the throne.

What they did notice was that mourners began to be fined, imprisoned, or executed for their allegiance to the former king. It didn’t take them long to understand they should save their tears for nighttime hours when they were safe from the king’s spies.

And then the revolution began…

The Revolution

Life under King Bozo was harsh. The people were taxed almost out of existence. Speech was censored. And new laws contradicted the laws of the previous gentle king.

Citizens of Parkland endured hunger, sickness, and discomfort. But they had no choice except to keep putting one foot in front of another, working hard, and suffering in silence.

The revolution, when it came, was silent. It was secret. And it was refreshing.

Bozo’s spies first noticed it when they realized the pall of grief was gone from the land. The people of the nation were standing straight and tall. Their voices were cheerful. And their greetings were warm.

“What’s going on?” the villains demanded of each other. But no one had an answer.

Secret Place

Finally, one of Bozo’s biggest bruisers accosted a timid-looking, little old lady. “What’s with you?” he asked. “Why are you so happy?”

She stepped back from his foul breath before she answered quietly, “My king is back.”

The bruiser frowned. “What d’ya mean? You like Bozo now?”

The woman smiled, “I said MY king.”

The bruiser scowled. “He’s not back. I killed him.”

She shrugged. “I don’t understand it either. But he’s back.”

“Back where?”

“At my house. At my job. Wherever I go, he’s with me. He’s my secret place.”

The big boob was practically frothing at the mouth now. “Don’t give me that! I know he’s dead because I killed him myself!”

“You’ll never kill him again,” she said. Then, she walked away and when the goon tried to stop her, he couldn’t get to her.

She was in her secret place.

Fast Forward to 2024

Today, we are less than two weeks away from the most terrifying election in U.S. history. Maybe I exaggerate. It is definitely the most terrifying election of my lifetime.

It is terrifying because one party has chosen to join forces with globalist elites in opposition to the best interests of our nation. And we have learned from experience that the globalists possess the power to manipulate elections. I believe the globalists are desperate to win this election and that if they do, U.S. citizens will suffer loss of freedom, loss of income, and loss of dignity.

Two things about this election are unfathomable to me:
1 Why anyone would vote for bozos who flagrantly thumb their noses at God’s Word.
2 Why anyone who loves the Lord and His Word would refrain from voting.

Let me say very plainly that I believe you should vote. We have a candidate who has demonstrated his love of life, love of our country, and love of Israel. On the other hand, we have a candidate who has demonstrated only contempt for our gracious God and His wisdom. I have a suspicion the Lord will hold all of us responsible for our choices in this election season.

Having said that, we know that God chooses our leaders, be they kings or be they presidents. No matter who wins, God is sovereign. And He is forever gentle and gracious to those who love and serve Him.

Your Secret Place

And now, I come to the reason I wrote this blog.

I imagine the citizens of Parkland, working all day for their fake king, through heat and harshness. And then, in the evening, like Adam and Eve, they walk with their true king in the cool of the day. And their king’s presence gives them comfort and hope. Their king’s words soothe their grief and their loss. And their king’s gentleness gives them strength to face another day.

I believe it’s possible that the Lord will allow the globalists to take control of America. The fact that He protected President Trump from the assassins’ bullets gives me hope. But it’s no guarantee.

Either way, though, we never need to be hopeless or comfortless. The King and Creator of all the universe is available to us 24/7. Whether or not we walk with Him and draw strength from Him is entirely our choice.

Even if our walk takes us through the valley of the shadow of death, we are walking with the One who conquered death. We are walking with the One whose fanatical love for us drove Him to a cruel cross. And we are walking with the One who will someday take His place on an eternal throne.

And so, when I wake on November 6 and hear the elections results, I will praise my King for His goodness and His wonderful works to us children of men. I will rejoice in His sovereign power. And I will trust Him.
