A few years ago, my sister-in-law told me I had made a tape for her daughter, telling the stories of Ruth and Esther. She said my niece listened to the tape at bedtime, as she was going to sleep. She listened to it until she wore it out. (This was a casette tape. You’re right; I’m old!)
I had no memory of making such a tape. But I decided that if my niece found the story entertaining enough to listen to it repeatedly, maybe other girls would enjoy it too. So, I fictionalized Ruth’s story, telling it in first person. It keeps very close to the information in the Bible, but I did have to invent some details so the story would flow and make sense, coming from someone who was there and knew exactly what happened.
